Stoke Gifford Parish Council

The new Council was elected in May 2007.   As usual, all seats were contested.  In December, the Council adopted a medium term Mission Statement...

To improve the well being, leisure and safety of all residents of Little Stoke, Stoke Gifford, Harry Stoke and Stoke Park and obtain value for resources.

The following are the key objectives

Improve communication amongst residents and between residents and the PC

Produce regular newsletters, encourage residents to respond to issues on the website (include changing the name of the guestbook), encourage the development and support of neighbourhood watch groups.  Aim to become an excellent Council with the power of well being, including if needs be, applying for Quality Status.  Encourage and support the voluntary sector. Encourage residents to attend and speak at Council meetings, publish agendas on the website, and publish contact hours and telephone an e-mail of office. Publish vandalism costs.

Develop the Council's Green Space Strategy

Pursue the Masterplans (post consultation) produced by Parklife, for Meade Park, Little Stoke Park, The Recreation Ground.  Develop 40 acres as a nature reserve, including taking a 50 year peppercorn lease, on it and Royal Park. Create appropriate Friends Groups and aim for a Green Flag award.  Promote an increase in recycling.  Continue to provide and maintain bus shelters, and litter and dog bins at busy locations.

Work with South Glos Council to stamp out fly tipping, abandoned cars, graffiti, and aim to deal with complaints in 24 hours on Council land and refer to S Glos that on theirs in the same time.

Draw the young and elderly into the community

Encourage the development of a youth council and /or co-opt young people onto Council. Provide better Youth facilities.  Consider developing a luncheon club.

Create events which enhance health and well being

Explore arranging community events - local/farmers market, fun run, it's a knock out, mini-marathon/fun run type event with teams representing schools/clubs businesses/groups in the area. This could also include amusements for ages up to say 7or 8. Sideshows, donkey or pony rides or mini roundabouts for the very young. Consider a twinning association.
