South Gloucestershire Council - 28th July 2023

Following discussions between Suez and Unite, the strike action is suspended whilst union members hold a ballot on the latest pay offer, and we are hopeful that this offer is accepted.

Household collections

All waste and recycling household collection services will return to normal from Monday 31 July and will be collected on your scheduled collection days. The black bins will be collected fortnightly and food waste and recycling weekly. You can check your collection days online.

Please put your containers out on your usual collection dates, including garden waste bins for those that are subscribed to the service.

We are expecting there to be a higher volume of recycling, which will take the crews a bit longer to get round. If your recycling is not collected, please take it back in until the following week. Crews will not be revisiting missed recycling collections.

Recycling sites

The pop-up recycling sites at Cleve RFC, Filton, Lyde Green, Staple Hill, Stoke Gifford and Yate will stop operating from today, Friday 28 July. The recycling points at The Batch and Warmley Community Centre will be removed on Monday 31 July.

All the Sort It centres will return to normal operating hours from Monday 31 July. However, the Revive shop at Thornbury Sort It centre will not open until week commencing 14 August at the earliest, whilst we focus resources on household collections. We will review the service and update this opening date as the service returns to normal operations.

Garden waste

This service will resume on Monday 31 July and we will start the process of extending subscriptions. You do not need to contact us. If your bin is heavy and cannot be lifted by the recycling trucks, we will leave out garden waste sacks for you to spread out the waste and we will collect on your next collection day. Unfortunately, the collection crews are unable to do this due to health and safety as they do not know what is inside the bins.

Bulky waste collections

There will be a delay to reinstating collections of bulky waste whilst we direct resources to household collections. This service will not resume until week commencing 14 August at the earliest. We will review the service and update this opening date as the service returns to normal operations.

Thank you

Thank you for your patience and for storing recyclable materials or dropping them off to a recycling site during this period. We are also very grateful to those who helped family and neighbours by sharing our messages or volunteering to drop off recycling for others.
