"We have been saddened to hear of the passing of Alderman Brian Allinson. Brian had a long career of public service spanning over 50 years. First as a senior police officer and latterly as councillor on both Stoke Gifford Parish Council and South Gloucestershire Council.
"He was instrumental in the creation of the Police Air Support Unit and was made an Alderman last year in recognition of his long and distinguished service to the people of Stoke Gifford and South Gloucestershire as a councillor.
"Brian was respected and liked by all his fellow councillors and his contribution to life in Stoke Gifford, which continued after his retirement last year, will be greatly missed."
