Update on Local Land Eviction Proceedings
The Parish Clerk (SGPC) - 19th August 2026
Stoke Gifford Parish Council has formally commenced legal removal procedures for the unauthorised encampment at the Mike Gallivan Memorial Field.
Because the field is situated on non-council land, the primary responsibility for the eviction lies with the parish council rather than South Gloucestershire Council, though the unitary authority is actively assisting with the process.
The timeline of local enforcement actions is progressing as follows:
- Monday 17 August: The unauthorised encampment arrived on-site.
- Tuesday 18 August: Local authorities and the council's Traveller Unit officially assessed the site, leading to the formal service of Section 77 Notices to leave.
- Wednesday 19 August (Today): A Summons for a Court Hearing is being served to the occupants.
- Thursday 20 August: The case is scheduled to attend the Magistrates' Court Hearing.
- Friday 21 August: If the site has not been vacated following the court hearing, Enforcement Officers are scheduled to be on-site to execute the eviction under a Section 78 Order.
The situation is being monitored daily.
