Unauthorized Encampment and Park Security

Stoke Gifford Parish Council - 21st August 2026

The Parish Council is currently dealing with an unauthorized encampment at Meade Park playing fields.

On Thursday evening, an encampment vacated the Mike Gallivan fields and gained entry to Meade Park. Regrettably, this involved criminal damage, as three padlocks securing the main car park barrier, overhead barrier, and internal field gate entrance were vandalised.

Current Actions & Next Steps

  • Legal Proceedings: Both the Police and the South Gloucestershire Travellers Department were notified immediately. The Enforcement team officially initiated legal eviction proceedings at 09:00 this morning (Friday). Parish Council Officers are working urgently to resolve this situation and restore full access to our recreational spaces.
  • Mike Gallivan Fields Cleanup: This morning, our Grounds staff and Caretaker began a thorough cleanup operation at the Mike Gallivan fields, removing multiple bags of litter left behind.
  • Community Thanks: We extend a massive thank you to the local volunteers who stepped up once again to help litter-pick and clear the hedges. Your community spirit is deeply appreciated by everyone at the Parish Council.

We understand the frustration this causes and assure residents we are doing everything within our legal power to manage the situation swiftly. Further updates will be provided as legal proceedings progress.
